Terms of Service
The short version: the game is free, play fair, be decent to the other three thrones, and treat the readings as what they are.
These terms are a contract between you and Enochian Praxis when you use enochianpraxis.com or the Enochian Praxis mobile apps (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.
Last updated: 13 September 2026.
1. What the Service is
Enochian Praxis is a free way to learn and play Enochian chess, the four-handed elemental chess of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. It offers solo play against computer opponents, real-time games against other people, and a library of articles about the game.
The Service is provided free of charge. There is nothing to buy, no subscription, no advertising, and no payment details are ever collected. It is operated by an independent individual, not by any order, lodge, or society, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by any such body.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you live in a country where a higher age of digital consent applies (16 in much of the European Economic Area, unless your country sets it lower), you must meet that age instead. Solo practice needs no account and no personal details.
If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these terms on your behalf.
3. Your account
Online play requires an account. Signing in works by email: you give an address, and a sign-in link or six-digit code is sent to it. There is no password to keep or lose.
- Keep control of the email address you sign in with. Anyone who can read that inbox can sign in as you.
- One account per person. Do not create additional accounts to inflate your rating, to seat yourself at several thrones in the same game, or to return after a suspension.
- Your display name is visible to other players. Choose one that is not impersonating someone else, not a slur, not sexual, and not an advertisement.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
4. Fair play and acceptable use
Enochian chess is a game for four seats. Most of these rules exist so the other three are not spoiled.
- Play your own moves. Do not use an engine, script, or bot to choose moves in games against other people, and do not automate play to farm rating.
- Do not collude. Do not coordinate with an opponent to manipulate ratings or results, and do not use a second account or a confederate to throw games.
- Do not abuse other players. No harassment, hate speech, threats, sexual content, or targeting of anyone on the basis of who they are. No spam, advertising, or links to malware.
- Do not stall. Deliberately abandoning games in progress, or running out the clock to frustrate other players, is a breach of these terms.
- Do not attack the Service. No scraping at volume, no attempts to break authentication or access other people’s data, no probing for vulnerabilities without permission, no denial-of-service, and no reverse engineering except where law gives you that right regardless of contract.
If you find a security flaw, please report it to avery@seldomdreams.com rather than exploiting it. Good-faith reports are welcome.
5. Chat and player conduct
Games include a chat panel. Chat messages are broadcast live to the players in that room and are not stored on our servers; when the room ends, they are gone.
Two tools are available to every player in a room: you can mute another player, which hides their messages on your device, and you can report a message, which saves a copy of that specific message for review. Reports are read only by the operator, for moderation.
You are responsible for what you send. We may suspend or remove an account that breaches section 4 or 5, with or without notice, and we may decline to give a reason where doing so would compromise another user’s privacy or an ongoing review.
6. The readings are for entertainment
Enochian chess has historically been used for divination, and this Service reflects that: the board narrates significant moves, and a completed game produces a reading drawn from its squares. Some readings are composed by an automated language model.
Every reading on this Service is offered for entertainment and study only. Nothing on the Service is medical, psychological, legal, financial, or professional advice, and none of it should be relied on in place of a qualified professional. Decisions you make after a reading are your own. Automated readings can also be simply wrong, in the ordinary way that generated text is wrong.
7. Content and intellectual property
The game engine, the software, the artwork, the board and piece renders, and the articles on this site are the operator’s original work and are protected by copyright. You may read, link to, and quote briefly from the articles with attribution. You may not republish them wholesale, or use the Service’s content to train a machine-learning model, without written permission.
The rules and correspondences of Enochian chess derive from the published papers of the Golden Dawn. Those historical materials are described here in our own words; no claim is made over the underlying tradition, and no copyrighted third-party text is reproduced.
You keep ownership of what you write in chat and of your display name. By sending them, you grant us the limited permission needed to transmit them to the other players in your game, and to retain a reported message for moderation.
8. Availability, changes, and your data
The Service is provided as it is, when it is available. It is a free project run by one person: it may be slow, it may be interrupted for maintenance, features may change, and it may be discontinued. We will try to give notice of a shutdown, but we cannot promise to.
Online games, ratings, and match history may be reset if the backend has to be rebuilt. Solo practice saves live in your own browser’s storage and are not backed up by us; clearing your browser data will erase them.
9. Ending your account
You may delete your account at any time from the lobby, under Your Standing → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your profile, rating, seats, device notification tokens, and the lobbies you created; move logs in games other people played in survive, with your identity removed from them, so your opponents keep their own history. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms. Sections 6, 7, 10, and 11 survive the end of your account.
10. Disclaimers and limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any reading or result will be accurate.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits, or lost opportunities, arising out of your use of the Service. Because the Service is free, the operator’s total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to one hundred United States dollars (US$100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is so, the exclusions and limits above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Connecticut, and you and the operator each consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or of the right to bring proceedings there where the law gives you that right.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service changes. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will note it on the site. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, please delete your account.
13. Contact
Questions, complaints, moderation appeals, and security reports all go to avery@seldomdreams.com.
